Orange County Choppers Meet May 2-3 2009

This past weekend Mazda owners in New England all got together in Newburgh, New York at the Orange County Choppers shop. This was the 2nd year in a row that they did it. I missed the first year but wasnt going to miss this one.

The event was sponsered by Compass Mazda, SleeperModz, StreetUnit, ProtegeGarage, Corksport, Mother's, Borla and a bunch of others. There were tours of the shop going on, raffles by the sponsers giving away free parts and all the mazda owners got discounts from OCCs store. Also got to meet Mikey Teutul of American Chopper. Paul Jr. also made a small appearance but was not there for very long.

Must give a thanks to Corksport. I ended up winning a raffle for a Corksport Oil Cap for my car in which they will be sending me soon :-)

Spring Clean Meet April 25, 2009

so I went to my first annual spring clean meet which i think they are up to their 4th or 5th year now, and man was i glad i went. All the Mazda owners are wicked nice and wicked fun to hang around. Obviously being called the Spring Clean meet it was all about cleaning our cars. Josh (Altspace) took the time to show me how to use all the Poorboys Products and use the Porter Cable buffer. Unfortunately I am an idiot and didn't take any before and after pics of my car but I could definately tell a ridiculous difference in the paint finish in my car. Before I had swirls all over my paint (wicked common if you own a black car) and now they are pretty much all gone. Also the finish of my car isnt just black paint anymore...its wicked deep and is like a mirror....everything relects off the paint now.

here are some pics i took of the meet

EXOTICSPEED

After a year of researching multiple exhaust systems for the RX-8 I finally went ahead and purchased the ExoticSpeed R1-T exhaust. I watched tons of videos of exhaust tones and really loved the Racing Beat, Mazdaspeed and Borla. I also loved the HKS Hi Power but I couldn't really get used to the single exhaust when the car was designed to look right with dual. I also didn't want anything really loud and I wanted a really deep sound. The Racing Beat from what I have heard is the quietest but I felt like I wasn't going to get much louder than the stock system so why go with that. I heard a video of the Exoticspeed exhaust and just loved the tone and sound it gave. I couldn't however get a sense of how loud it was, but I took the chance anyway.

The exhaust is by far the best looking exhaust ive seen. The install was a pain to be completely honest. Ive installed exhausts before but they were single exhausts not dual so maybe that was my problem but getting this thing to fit the stock hanger spots was very difficult.

At idle its not too loud at all just has a deep lil rumble to it. Sitting in neutral revving is definately a bit loud. Actually driving the car is not too loud at all and sounds great. Even my mother heard me driving away and commented on how nice the car sounded and she has always hated aftermarket exhausts. Ive driven by a couple of cops sitting at the side of the road and the sound isn't loud enough to catch there attention.

All said and done I really like the choice i made and would make the same choice if I had to. The only thing that stinks is aftermarket exhausts all sound very loud on the inside of the RX8 and everything rattles once your at about 5k Rpm. But a lil sound deadener should fix all of that

TINTED!

I have always been a fan of tinting not only the windows but also taillights of the car. This is my first black car so I had to really think if i wanted the black tails on the black car. After debating and having multiple friends also telling me to tint them I went along and did it. I used a product that I have been familiar with for awhile which was VHT NiteShades. It is basically a spray on tint which can go from a mild smoke tint to a totally blacked out finish. It is also completely transparent so you can see the all lights right through. I went for a basically all blacked out look and also blacked out my front corner turn signals. I first looked into getting the clear corner signals but honestly dont like the look of them on the black RX-8.

AEM Cold Air Intake

I was never really looking into getting an intake anytime soon for the RX-8 considering they are pricey and really don't add much except for sound and maybe a few HP, but a local was selling his AEM intake almost brand new for a great price that I couldn't really refuse.

Install was a bit of a pain but not hard. Removal of the front bumper was a must along with the front bumper reinforcement bar. The intake looks pretty good in the engine bay (personally not the color i would have chosen) and it snakes down and the filter sits right behind the front bumper grill to suck in the cool air.

After the install i took it for a spin. As far as horsepower probably not much, but it did add some throttle response and added a great throaty sound. Still has the rotary sound but just alot deeper and aggressive.

Is it worth almost $400 brand new? To me personally probably not but everyone has their opinions.

Voodoo Shift Knob & ShiftStyle Shift Boot

So I finally decided to get rid of the great looking but terribly uncomfortable rotor shift knob that came stock on the RX-8s. Adds a nice touch to the interior but not something shaped for your hand. So I ordered a piano black (matches the stock radio deck) voodoo shift knob. I think it looks great since it matches the color of the stereo and its just perfectly sized for the palm of your hand and only costs $40.

I'm also not a huge fan of any leather what-so-ever so i ordered a shift boot from ShiftStyle. There are all types of different custom styles and colors you can choose from on there site and they specifically make it for your vehicle. I personally just got the standard style and i chose a black alacantra material and had red stitching done (to match my future plans for my interior).

First Post!

Well for my first post I thought I'd just talk about the RX8 since I've owned it for about a year now. My car is a 2004 Brilliant Black Base model. I bought it with 32k miles in 2008. Since then I've enjoyed the car thoroughly. I have driven multiple cars that my father and other family members have owned that are far more expensive than the 8 and I can honestly say that I enjoy the 8 the most. The other cars all had more acceleration than the 8 but none could handle or just drive as nice.

Since buying the 8, I haven't really added anything parts until recently. My girlfriend bought me the OEM foglights since the car didnt even come with those. I then bought an Apexcone 6000k HID kit which for the price works really well and havent had any problems with it.

I would rather not bore anyone with this long post with no pictures or anything. Just wanted to introduce the car and i do have some recent updates to the car that i will get some pics and post with.
